Jon Shrader began playing the cello at the age of ten, and since that time has studied with a variety of private instructors, including Anna Clift of St. Olaf College, and Diane Tremaine. Jon has also participated in numerous orchestral groups and small ensembles, including the Minnesota Youth Symphonies.

In 2006 Jon attended Luther College in Decorah Iowa for his undergraduate studies, and joined the studio of Dr. Eric Kutz. In those years Jon had the opportunity to perform on tour with the Luther College Symphony Orchestra, visiting and performing across much of the US, in addition to a residency in Salzburg, Germany and Vienna, Austria.

Jon now resides in Burnsville, Minnesota, and continues to actively perform alongside his wife with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. Although Jon has a classical performance upbringing, Jon also has experience with alternative and non-classical genres, and performs actively with an alternative rock band based in River Falls, WI. He has also played with various folk artists, and incorporates styles present in American folk music into his playing when he is not performing classically.

Jon has been teaching private lessons off and on over the last eight years, and has a passion for helping others to learn the cello and become truly talented musicians. He has an open mind toward teaching, and knows that every student has a different way of learning best. He adjusts his teaching style to each student’s style of learning and enjoys helping his students to feel successful in their playing.
