John Rose, a native of the Twin Cities, started his musical education on the violin when he was five years old under the tutelage of Paul Tarabek. John’s earliest performances were as a member of the prestigious Minnesota Youth Symphonies which he played with for 11 years. John is a founding member of the Uppsala String Quartet, an active string quartet performing locally in the Twin Cities. John was also the founding member of the Cozmo String Quartet in Fargo, ND. John has been a section violist with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra since 2016. He has also finished his first year as Principal Viola with the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra. In addition to chamber and orchestral playing, John also enjoys solo performing and giving recitals around the Twin Cities as well as doing outreach in the Metro. John also works as a freelance musician around the greater Twin Cities area.
John holds a Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota where he studied with Dr. Sonja Bosca Harasim. While at Concordia, he acted as Concertmaster of the university orchestra performing as a soloist in the production of Rimsky Korsakov’s Sheherazade and in the Emmy Award winning Christmas Concert. In 2017, He competed in the MN Grieg Society String Competition and won Second Place. At Concordia College is where he discovered his love for viola. After graduating from Concordia, he went to complete his Masters Degree in Viola Performance at University of Nevada, Las Vegas under the tutelage of Kate Hamilton. While at University of Nevada, John had the opportunity to participate in classes with world class musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and many more. He was also invited to perform with Milan Conservatory Orchestra. John held a Graduate Assistantship with the University of Nevada in Music Theory.
In addition to performing, John is a passionate teacher of both violin and viola students of all ages. He is entering his twelfth year teaching and has a growing studio in the Twin Cities.
